Interviews

I finally managed to meet with Denis in Oval, like in the end of the world. But it was worth all this journey. Here's the video showing the interview. You will recognize that the camera wasn't capturing Denis's face just to make him feel more comfortable when talking about the real experience with schizophrenic people.

Great progress, looks like you've really got going. Good to see the visuals leaing the text. Still make sure you are presenting with clarity only show us information that takes us to the next stage. Also try and post in small sections so that comments relate closely to posting details. Really like the surreal, visual illussion imagaery being developed, feel poinent! Make sure images are builr around or reflect closely the test. Stay true to your findings.

Notes that I thought I had already sent for session 4
For session 4 I went over with Lara the development of her process, design thinking map for the RSA project and recommended:
1. To consider re organising the layout to clarify important areas, references and working material.
2. Creating a ‘Research document’ for the RSA hand in (please check brief) This could be a series of prepare A3 pages where areas of your research map could be photographed or areas of interest or developments presented. By prepaing A3 sheet binding can be left until the end.
3. Consider clearing Design research wall and only put back areas currently be developed, ready for the next stage.

We also looked at Lara’s blog and made suggestions in ways that it might be more visually developed, like a sketch book. Suggested:
1.Type should be edited and support visual reference.
2.Use headings and sub headings
3.Identify through size or colour important points
4. Identify speech or extracts again using colour or font size.

We also looked at some of the resource references I prepared which you might find helpful.

Presentation

Module Code:
Module Title: Design Research Methods
Project Title: Authorship

Date: 2nd November – 7th December
Module leader: Amanda Sleet

Brief
Authorship and Collections
The role of the designer is expanding constantly as visual communicator, publisher, author, collaborator, innovator and at times artist. Many designers continue to seek the need to have their own voice, reflect personal interest and develop self initiated or set funded projects. We see designers as authors and publishers, ‘Jonathan Barnbrook’ and ‘We are what we do’ (changing the world from 9-5), to name just two.

For many designers, references, ideas and directions come from personal collects of ‘Stuff’. These collections often feed commercial work and are developed to reflect particular interests, a voice, a way of seeing and a point of view. The development of personal collections are not exclusive to the designer, many artists, filmmakers and designers build personal collections as a form of personal escapism, reflect cultural backgrounds or show a particular interest. Designers have historically been collected ephemeral objects and been interested in memorabilia and memorable people or times.

You are being asked to research examples of design authorship and through these examples examine the routes, choices and directions individual projects take to realize the project. You will need to prepare a presentation on your chosen examples. Additionally you are also asked to start to develop your own personal collection to reflect your interests and view point.

Presentations should be prepare as a Powerpoint Presentation.
Presentations should run for 20mins on Friday 7th December
Powerpoints should be handed in on a CD
A written report of 750-1000 should be prepared and published on your blog.
